In museums and galleries one can find a glimpse of contemporary and historical art and artists. A person’s quality of life is improved by visits to art museums because they encourage engagement and positive emotions.

Recently, PHS art classes experienced this joy firsthand. All students attended a field trip to the New York Museum of Modern Art. Art students had a great time, a trip which allowed them to get a close-up look at all the beautiful artwork. Learning about art in class is one thing, but experiencing it firsthand is quite another.

All the art we saw was captivating and almost overwhelming, in the best possible way. Observing and hearing about our peers’ interpretations of the artworks was fascinating and insightful. This trip gave anyone who was present a chance to see PHS students at their best.

Of the thousands of pieces of art that were displayed, The Lovers II caught the authors’ eye. Out of all the ones we saw, it spoke to us the most, and its attractiveness did so in a variety of ways. The artwork has many implications, but ultimately, it represents love. A word that none of us fully comprehends but for which we still crave.

In actuality, what makes everything so beautiful, is how something as simple as a kiss can hold so much power. This piece resonates us, as well as other students. There is a comforting and a soft aesthetic feel to it. All in all, this work demonstrates that a picture really does speak a thousand words.

Some people may look at this beauty and only see a painting; however, The Lovers II, located in the Museum of Arts In New York, is more than simply a painting. René Magritte’s 1928 painting, The Lovers ll , depicts two individuals sharing a kiss, but in addition there is also subliminal things in it that speak to the power and the passion of love.

However, it is more than a kiss that is being shown, it is being symbolized as well. It symbolizes a lesson about falling in love and getting to know someone on a deeper level, just to abruptly realize that you will never completely know them. This artwork is representing conflict that exists between the image of a person in the mind of their lover and who they actually are in reality.

There was fun in going to the city for the day, fun in getting out of the school and sharing a day in the city. However, there was a great deal of learning that could not occur in a classroom as well. The thought of human interaction and the meaning of love also gave this author as well as other PHS students something to think about. If you get the chance, go to see art, but you should also expand your knowledge by taking art classes at PHS.
