Class of 2021 Unite!

By Evelin Cabrera

While we all feel sad for the Class of 2020, their senior year was cut short in March, and they did not get to have a normal prom, or complete any of the senior activities that they had been looking forward to, or even have a normal graduation.

This is now the year of the Class of 2021, and it is supposed to be getting back to normal, right?

It is finally senior year for us, and we are making it work from the comfort of our own home. While we may be able to get extra sleep because we do not have to wake up early to walk to school, and some of us get to work more hours, we still have a lot of senior stuff to do.

Applying to colleges, trying to get your resume to look good, and staying on top of your work is hard to do from a distance. When it comes to applying to college and financial aid, we would usually have our counselors or teachers to help.

While it may seem overwhelming, or that you are on your own in trying to get this all done on your own. You are NOT alone. Teachers and counselors are still there to help you. “I am at tutoring every morning, (Google Classroom code yfcjnhx) and that is not just for help in class, it is for EVERYTHING you might need help in, including college essays,” said Mr. Zeiler, who does humanities tutoring every morning with Mr. Vallila.

However sad this year might be, for the same reason that last year ended sadly, at the end of the day it is our last year of high school and we need to grow up a little faster. We still have our whole lives ahead of us and that means taking advantage of the things that are offered at our school. We always thought we had one last year before we had to grow up and start our lives. With everything going on that last year is gone. We need to do everything to make ourselves ready and take on some more responsibilities.

As students, school was always a place to see our friends and make memories. Now we just do school and try our best to have an outside life. With the pandemic and having school from home the stress load has increased. We went from being regular high school students to having all this responsibility being thrown at us. It is not easy and this pandemic brings a lot of stress. Everyone is trying their best to make the best out of a hard situation.

Sadly the thing is that no one was prepared for this. No one knows how to deal with this. We are all as a school community trying to make the best out of a bad situation. Seniors in particular have no room for error. Nobody wants to have to repeat their senior year, but how can we get everything done without self-motivation?

Although we are having an irregular school year, I guess it’s time for us to grow up. It might be a sucky experience but at least we know how to take care of ourselves and be more responsible. This is stressful and usually stuff we would have help for but not everyone has that luxury.

Good luck to all the seniors and I know you’ll make it through. Remember no one is all alone, and we will all get through this together.
